GLAVKOS KOUMIDES (1950 -)

Born in Nicosia in 1950.

Studied Architecture in London at the A.A. School of Architecture (AA Diploma) and Psychology at the University of Cologne, Germany.

He is a member of the Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK). Since 1977 he has been exhibiting his paintings, etchings and installations in one-man or group exhibitions both in Cyprus and abroad. In 1999 he represented Cyprus at the 48th Venice Biennale.

Glavkos Koumides has also written and issued in the «Poupouxios Publications», a series of literary works in Greek, partly available in German translation under the title «Von Stiftern und Anstiftern», Romiosini Publications, Cologne, 1995.

He applies to his works the term «Icasma» (pl. icasmata), a term derived from the Greek word for the visual arts, which might be transferred into English as «an eyeing guess», denoting thus the element of the conjectural in art.
